Christian Dior opened his Paris house in 1946 and reshaped the silhouette of a generation with the New Look. The eyewear draws directly on that couture archive: sculpted, feminine curves; the cannage motif borrowed from the house's quilted leather; the CD signature and Dior Oblique pattern used sparingly on temples and hinges. Materials are luxurious without being loud — deep acetates, gold- and palladium-tone metals, lenses in soft, considered tints.

Recent collections have moved toward a cleaner, more architectural line. DiorSignature frames pare the shape down to a sculptural front with the CD initials cut into the temple, while the 30Montaigne family takes its name from the house's home address and its cues from Dior's leather goods. The men's frames are quieter still: strong, squared shapes in black and Havana with a single discreet mark.

Dior is for someone who wants the frame to feel finished — polished from every angle, not just the front. Women drawn to sculptural, slightly dramatic shapes will find the cat-eyes and butterfly sunglasses do a lot for the cheekbone; those who prefer restraint gravitate to DiorSignature and the slimmer metals. Men who want the Dior name without ornament will find the men's optical frames sit comfortably alongside a suit or a Sunday sweater.

Yes. Dior optical frames are made up with your prescription in single vision, progressive or occupational designs, and many Dior sunglass styles can be fitted with prescription sun lenses, polarized if you prefer. Some of the oversized and shield-style sunglasses have limits with stronger prescriptions, which our opticians check before you order.
