Ray-Ban

The most recognizable frames in the world, fitted properly. Domiano Eye Care carries Ray-Ban sunglasses and optical frames in Old Forge and Clarks Summit, with prescription lenses made to your exam.

What makes Ray-Ban an icon?

Ray-Ban's story starts in 1937 with a request from the U.S. Army Air Corps for a lens that would cut glare for pilots at altitude; the result was the Aviator, and the brand has been defined by that mix of function and cool ever since. The Wayfarer followed in 1952 — a molded, angular acetate that broke from the wire frames of the day — and the browline Clubmaster arrived in 1986. Add the metal Round and you have four silhouettes that have never really gone out of style.

What ties them together is the lens: Ray-Ban's classic G-15 green and B-15 brown tints were built to give true color and comfortable contrast, and they still set the standard for what a sunglass lens should look through.

Which Ray-Ban style suits my face?

There's no single rule, but a few starting points hold up.

  • Aviator — the teardrop shape softens angular faces and suits most; a smaller lens size keeps it in proportion on narrower faces
  • Wayfarer and New Wayfarer — angular fronts that add structure to round or oval faces; the New Wayfarer sits a little smaller and flatter
  • Clubmaster — the browline draws the eye up and works especially well on round and heart-shaped faces
  • Round — best on square or heart-shaped faces that benefit from a curve

Can I get prescription lenses in Ray-Ban frames?

Yes, both ways. Ray-Ban makes optical frames — many of the classic sun shapes reworked for clear lenses — that we make up with your prescription in single vision, progressive or occupational designs. Most Ray-Ban sunglasses can also be fitted with prescription sun lenses in the classic tints or gradients, polarized if you want it; a few of the more curved styles have limits with stronger prescriptions, which our opticians check before you order. Bring a current prescription, or schedule an exam with Dr. Michele L. Domiano, O.D., at either office.

Are Ray-Ban sunglasses polarized?

Some are, some aren't, and it's worth knowing the difference. Standard Ray-Ban lenses cut brightness and block UV; polarized versions add a filter that kills the horizontal glare bouncing off water, wet roads and car hoods, which makes them the better choice for driving and time on the water. Polarized Ray-Bans are usually marked with a small P on the lens. If you spend most of your sunglass time behind the wheel on I-81 or on a lake, we'll steer you toward polarized; if you mostly wear them walking around, standard lenses are perfectly good.
